Steps from the Red Line
Men's Psychiatric Day Treatment*
Has poor mental health been taking its toll? Many men unfortunately struggle with mental health challenges. All too often, men hide these negative emotions away, but this often only makes the problem even worse in the long run. That’s why finding the right treatment sooner rather than later is key.
At Cambridge Mental Health, we offer mental health services specifically to men, so they can receive the support and dedicated care necessary to overcome their mental health issues. It provides a safe, supportive environment where you’ll be in the presence of other men who genuinely understand what you are going through.
What is Psychiatric Day Treatment*?
Psychiatric Day Treatment* programs, or partial hospitalization programs, have a lot of similarities to inpatient programs, where individuals receive substantial mental health support. However, unlike residential treatment facilities, there is no need for any overnight stays.
Outpatient services like this work well for those struggling with mental health disorders or substance abuse – particularly those who need intensive support but do not have the schedule or means to stay in an inpatient facility.
At Cambridge Mental Health, our psychiatric day treatment* program can treat problems such as:
- Substance Abuse
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Bipolar Disorder
- Trauma
- Grief

The Benefits of Outpatient Treatment Programs for Men
Choosing a men-only outpatient program like ours can help you treat your mental health condition and enjoy a full recovery journey in a safe, supportive, male-centric environment. Here are some of the benefits of that.
Feeling Understood
It helps to be in an outpatient program where you feel genuinely listened to and understood. Men have a lot of similar experiences – many of which are unique to men – and it helps to be in a community where others genuinely understand those. You’ll feel like you are finally being heard.
A Flexible Schedule
One of the reasons many people choose an outpatient treatment center (rather than inpatient care or residential programs) is that they allow for a more flexible schedule. When you choose an outpatient program, you can still attend work or school while meeting your family responsibilities. At the same time, you’ll receive the mental health care you need.
It is Goal-Oriented
Whether you are receiving mental health or addiction treatment from an outpatient program, it will always be goal-oriented. It’s not about one specific goal of “being better”; instead, you’ll receive a unique and tailored plan that sets you small, achievable goals that push you towards recovery.
What to Expect from Our Care
Are you interested in our Cambridge outpatient program, but want to know what will happen when you start a treatment plan with us? Here, we will go into what to expect.
Tailored, Focused Care
While a big part of our men-only psychiatric day treatment* program is about bringing people going through mental health struggles together, we also understand that each man is an individual, and therefore requires a tailored treatment plan. Our mental health and substance abuse treatment services always take that into account, so we will factor in things like your medical history and the type of treatments you’ve already tried when devising your unique step-by-step plan.
Evidence-Based Therapies
Our outpatient program uses evidence-based therapies like behavioral health treatments to treat mental illnesses and substance use disorders. That includes:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy: This is a specific type of therapy that helps people learn coping mechanisms to deal with intense emotions. It’s particularly effective for those who have bipolar disorder or another mood disorder.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: CBT is a goal-oriented therapy that helps patients understand their own thought patterns and behaviors. As a result, patients are able to make significant positive changes.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy: This is a type of physical therapy that involves a lot of patient participation. It’s best used for processing trauma.
Group Therapy
On top of individual therapy sessions like dialectical behavior therapy, we also offer group therapy sessions. This is a key part of recovery, as group therapy allows you to connect with like-minded people, sharing your thoughts and feelings, and actively listening to others. During your time with us, you’ll build a strong support network that will see you through recovery.
Family Therapy
It is hard to heal from a mental health problem or substance use disorder without the support of your loved ones. That’s why our outpatient program incorporates family support. We set up family therapy to open the door to more honest, open, and understanding conversations between you and your family members.
The Treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders
We are also able to treat co-occurring disorders at Cambridge Mental Health. This dual diagnosis treatment is important, as many people with mental health problems or substance abuse disorders don’t just have one issue.
Medication Management and Medication-Assisted Treatment
Another part of our outpatient program is medication management and medication-assisted treatment. This is to ensure all our patients get their medications on time every day, forming a rigid structure. Plus, it is particularly important for those going through a medical detox following substance abuse, as addiction medicine can alleviate withdrawal symptoms.
A Comfortable Setting
We believe that the treatment setting matters. That’s why our Cambridge facility offers plenty of comforts. We have excellent amenities, lovely decor, and a generally comfortable environment for our patients.
A Supportive Environment
When you are in our care, you will be in a supportive environment. Everybody wants to see one another succeed. We form a community-driven clinic, which helps everyone feel more motivated to succeed.
Is Psychiatric Day Treatment* Right for You?
So, is our outpatient program for men right for you, or is something else (like inpatient treatment) the better option? It's all about your needs and schedule.
Level of Support
Our level of support is quite substantial. We offer a more intensive therapy program compared to traditional weekly therapy sessions, as we provide more structure and can handle things like medication management, which is good for more complex mental health issues. However, if you are at a higher risk of something like self-harm, an inpatient treatment program might be better. At the same time, if your mental health issues are minimal and you need just some support, weekly therapy may be okay for you.
Schedule
One of the best parts of our men’s outpatient program is that it provides a high level of care while allowing for flexibility. If you have a busy work and home life – perhaps you attend university, have a job you need to get to, or a family to look after – then this outpatient structure is perfect.
If you are still unsure whether our treatment facility is the best choice for you, simply get in touch. Our team always provides genuine, patient-first advice – if we think our care is not right for you, we will be honest and point you in the right direction.
